These sugar skull ring stitch markers are the perfect way to celebrate Día de los Muertos.

The Day of the Dead, is a celebration of life and death. While the holiday originated in Mexico, it is celebrated all over Latin America with colorful calaveras (skulls), calacas (skeletons), alters and flowers.

I had the honour of being invited to Monterrey, Mexico many years ago to stay with some Mexican friends on this important celebration. I visited alters, ate the traditional foods and later walked up a long hill to the cemetery to pay respect to the graves. It was moving, beautiful, and an experience of a lifetime.

These stitch markers are an emblem of the lovely Latin American tradition of remembering and celebrating those who have passed on. Plus, they're just plain fun!
